Due to the supposed compatability issues of the 6990 with certain games I am considering two 6970's in it's stead, am I right in this decision?|||Yes, would a 1.5ghz dual core be better than a 3.0ghz single core?|||lol, wtf?? We're not talking about processor crap xD... Whatever.
Yes, it would. Same performance, less power consumption and MUCH LESS noise. The 6990 sounds like a thermobaric tank in full throttle or something.
But if you have the money to buy a 6990, why not go with Nvidia, a GTX 590?? GTX 590 has 3 gigs of VRAM, and yet is faster than the 4 gigs of 6990.|||The 6990 is in short supply. A lot of this has to do with bad yeilds. Appearenty, the GPU has to be a little better than the standard one used in a 6970. On top of that non-gamers, the Bitcoin people are competing for this card.
If you clock a 6990 past 830mhz then you void the warranty. It has a switch that will take the core clock to 880mhz. Flipping the switch is a no-no and you're screwed if the card breaks.
As you know, the 6970 is clocked to 880mhz.
